8. What will be the effects of such a temperature increase?
If we do nothing to reverse global warming until after the tipping points all "tip", changes we would be wise to anticipate includesevere and deadly heat waves and droughts; devastation of our farms, forests and fisheries; desertification; famine; economic depression; extinction; enormously violent and destructive storms; spread of tropical deseases including Dengue Fever and Malaria; significant melting of polar icecaps leading to a rise in sea levels and the complete disappearance of low lying coastal lands, refugee migration; flooding of oil tanker docking ports and refineries leads to shutdown of interstate trucking, and the supply of home heating oil, gasoline, diesel - and food - to the cities and suburbs stops. Political unrest and military conflict grow as the most devastating weapons ever created still exist - with no means to regulate their use. Civilization as we know it comes to an end as deserts spread, forests burn, and most of earth's species go extinct.
